We love to celebrate and support artists with a focus on engaging and inspiring our community and other artists. We hire out our gallery space to host exhibitions which further both our artistic journey and the progress of the exhibiting artists.
As we are a not-for-profit organisation and do not receive funding for day-to day running costs, we normally charge a hire fee for the use of our space as it contributes towards our various overheads such as utilities, rent, staffing and cleaning. If you are applying for to cover the costs of an exhibition our Development Manager will be able to support you on this including with in-kind support.
SELECTION & BOOKING PROCESS
We assess proposals based on the merit of the exhibition in question rather than past achievements. We encourage emerging artists and students to apply as well as experienced artists. Once you have completed an exhibition proposal our artistic team will read over it and if we are able to offer you the space out team will get in touch with you to discuss costs and/ or funding options as well as the next steps.
Our ethos is to consider ALL work but with the following criteria in mind:
The work does not directly conflict with any existing work in our programme for the period in question.
The exhibition will make appropriate use of our space.
The exhibition will benefit some or all of the following - our artistic direction, audience development and our community.
If you aren’t familiar with the space we advise that artists and curators visit the space prior to submitting a proposal. Our team are happy to meet with you to show you round to ensure you are happy with the space and access.
This light and airy space has large moveable display boards and is situated on the first floor. The Isherwood has the original oak parquet flooring and white-washed walls. Immediately outside The Isherwood is the gallery landing. This reception space comprises the bar area and additional wall space if required.
The Apex is a fantastic space for creating new work. Located on the top floor and away from our public spaces, The Apex is a place where artists in residence call home. This multifunctional space comprises a large main work space, desk space and a chill out area.
Hire of the gallery includes:
· Two days set-up and take-down either side of the exhibition
· Free internet access
· A launch party from 7-9pm on the opening Friday
Additional extras include:
· Full invigilation cover during the exhibition
· Social media marketing on the run up to the exhibition and throughout
· Flyer design, if needed, by The Old Courts in-house designer
· 500 A5 flyers
· Flyers distributed around key locations in Wigan Town Centre
· Our marketing team will write a press release and distribute it online to What's On guides and local press.
· Email invites will be sent out to our list of subscribers.
Hire of the APEX includes:
Private access to the Apex is 7 days a week 8am – 11pm.
Prices to hire the gallery will be discussed if the application is successful. Full terms and conditions are outlined in the booking form.
Exhibition durations, artist needs and marketing requirements can be discussed with the team after application submission. Any work exhibited must be insured at the artists expense.
