Ravellas share new single "Worse Places" - listen here

Indie Rock & Roll 4 piece Ravellas continue on the rise having been featured on Spotify's Fresh Finds playlist and BBC Introducing. We had a catch up to get to know them a bit better and heard their brand new single "Worse Places".

Why don't we start with introducing yourself to our readers

We are Ravellas. We are from Wigan. We formed in the consciousness and hearts of music lovers since the guitar was invented but in real terms 2016.

What inspired the name Ravellas? How did you guys come together?

We nicked it from a band called Carvella who in turn nicked their name from a shoe.

We formed after I (Mac) spent many a nights tryna blag people round Wigan to form a band. The current line up is just 3 other people who haven’t got sick of me yet.

What are your influences / inspiration?

Talk us through your music making process?

I’ll nick a riff or some chords off a big band/artist and much better song writer and if the band don’t notice I’ve done it we record it.

What inspired "Worse Places"?

Lyrically it takes a lot of inspiration from Tom Clarke in The Enemy. We were lucky enough to support him on tour for a couple of gigs and we hammered their first album in between each gig. It’s about feeling isolated and lost in a run down town but the music is the polar opposite to that.

What part of being in a band do you like most?

Just being in the band room with 3 mates jamming tunes together that you’ve wrote and actually don’t mind listening to. The rest of being in a band is hard work.

What is your favourite song to perform live?

Cause you could or Polyfila

Favourite/weirdest band memory?

Watching Degs, our roady when we played in France, speak wiganese to dumbfounded french people.

“Plentya yeds in ere toneet?”

If you could play anywhere, where would you dream to play?

Who are you currently listening to?

Sam Fender

Favourite Old Courts memory?

Our “Reputation” single launch.

What are your views of the music scene in Wigan?

Quite a lot of young and upcoming bands who are better than we were at that age

What's next for Ravellas?

Keep going until we look too old and can’t pull off skinny jeans anymore. Ravellas are playing Friday Night Live in The Grand Vault on Friday 14th June. Get your tickets in advance here and make sure you don't miss out! Keep updated with Ravellas on Instagram @weareravellas
