"This residency has massively elevated the work that we are creating. It has given us a space away from home, freed up our minds, and nurtured the piece." - Elise Heaven, Raised Eyebrows Theatre.
Meet Elise, Jess, Sophie, Bee and Paul from Raised Eyebrows Theatre, a Gloucestershire based family theatre company who see the world through equality and norm-challenging tinted glasses.
Raised Eyebrows Theatre's current show Charmane is a story about acceptance, courage and learning how to find your inner ROAR! Raised Eyebrows were recently in residence at The Old Courts for five days to develop the show and to seek advice from local LGBTQ+ support groups on how they can engage children, schools and families.
Take a sneak peek at the show by watching this trailer:
Piggin says that Charmane is a kitten because she looks like one. Charmane doesn’t feel like a kitten. But Piggin wants a friend and Charmane wants a mane so so they had better stick together. Join two new best friends as they learn about themselves and how to truly see each other.
Formed in 2014 by Elise Heaven and Jess Gibbs. Raised Eyebrows Theatre are Associate Artists of Strike A Light.
Charmane is co-commissioned by Strike A Light, GL4, Arts Council England and the Collaborative Touring Network. Formed in 2013, The Collaborative Touring Network (CTN) is a partnership between Battersea Arts Centre and eight national partners. The Old Courts is one of these partners, and over the past three years we have produced Wigan Arts Festival - a multi-arts festival that runs each Spring and Autumn. Other partners on this project are producing teams based in in Hull, Darlington, Gloucester, Thanet, Torbay, Peterborough and Medway. As a network, we support and develop artists locally and deliver two festivals a year packed with inspiring touring work, home-grown talent, music, workshops & feasts. We're happy to say through their support for Charmane, CTN has commissioned some very talented, genuinely lovely artists who put a lot of care into producing quality, important theatre.
Over the course of their five day stay with us, Raised Eyebrows have been developing Charmane and have also met with local LGBTQ+ support groups to hear their input on ways that they can engage with communities.
"The Old Courts is a fantastic space, with a brilliant facility both in terms of how the staff are supporting us and the actual physical space that we have been given." - Elise Heaven, Raised Eyebrows Theatre.
