We’ve got some good news!
The building works around the Bailiff Bar are due to be complete by the end of the month, which means we’ll be able to use the space again.
Because we’ve already planned an exciting programme right through to Christmas across some brilliant spaces, we’ll be bringing the Bailiff Bar back on an event-led only basis.
And that means something new…
For the first time ever, the Bailiff Bar will also be available to hire for parties, celebrations and private events. We’ll also be programming some special pop-up events in there over the Christmas period, so keep an eye out for what’s coming.
As the wider redevelopment continues, it’s likely that the Bailiff Bar will need to close again temporarily during the final stage of building works to the Vault and Theatre. We’re monitoring the programme closely and will only take bookings or announce events in the Bailiff Bar where we’re confident they can go ahead as planned and won’t be affected by the works.
But that’s not all.
We’ve also gained a brand-new space in the former café area, which is becoming the new home for our creative and artistic programme.
Think cosy and cultured.
The space is currently getting a bit of TLC and we’re all buzzing about what it’s going to become. The first room will have relaxed café-bar vibes, the middle room will be home to performances and live events, and the top room will bring together gallery space with somewhere to grab a drink, catch up with friends and spend a bit of time.
And it now has a name…
Peelers.
The name Peelers is a nod to the building’s history. In Victorian times, this part of the building was used as a police station, and “Peelers” was a nickname for early police officers.

So while some things are changing, we’re also growing, creating and finding new ways to bring brilliant cultural experiences to Wigan.
We’ve gained a new space, we’ve got an exciting programme ahead, and there’s plenty more happening behind the scenes too.
Watch this space.
