Built in 1887, our imposing venue was designed to make a big impression. With original features such as stained glass windows, oak parquet flooring, gargoyles and more, it’s impossible to ignore the character the building has retained to present day.

Running the entire length of Crawford Street and the only building on it, our location sits adjacent to Wigan Parish church and church gardens and oozes curb appeal.

Such is the appeal of our venue and its various internal spaces, the BBC hired the entire site in 2019 and transformed numerous parts of the building for the period drama ‘World On Fire’ in which The Old Courts featured heavily as a Parisian nightclub, ‘Levenshulme Palais’, prison cells and a hall hosting a rally for the British Union Of Fascists.

We have a range of large rooms full of character and grandeur such as The Victorian Courtroom to intimate and quirky spasces such as the unique artists dressing room – a tall, parlour-style room with Victorian curiosities occupying shelves and sideboards. In addition to these popular spaces, we have corridors, side rooms and facades which have all featured in many shoots ranging from glossy magazine shoots, music videos and fashion shoots to numerous  university projects.

Take a look at Our Spaces page to see which spaces best suit your requirements.

The Old Courts strive to accommodate all enquiries and all requests, no matter how bizarre they may seem. Our team are creative-minded and flexible with the express aim of enabling any teams or individuals to achieve the results they need with the help of this historic building.
